Photofacial IPL and BBL

Using the most sophisticated and broadest spectrum of Intense Pulse Light (IPL), our Photofacial IPL and BBL treatments are a safe and effective alternative to other more invasive skin resurfacing treatments. It’s a relatively painless procedure and no downtime is necessary making it a quick and effective way to treat skin irregularities caused by skin aging such as sun spots, liver spots, age spots, superficial wrinkles and fine lines, and uneven skin tone. Our Photofacial IPL and BBL treatments can also help with skin conditions like rosacea, broken capillaries, and acne scars.

Our Photofacial IPL and BBL Treatment

Photofacial IPL works by directing Intense Pulse Light (IPL) onto the dark spots on the skin and breaks them down so that they flake off easily. The heat of the laser also stimulates the skin’s natural response and begins producing more collagen and elastin to help with the healing process. New and healthier skin is revealed after the dead and damaged skin cells are removed from the surface. Unlike skin resurfacing lasers that do not discriminate between healthy and damage skin cells, Photofacial IPL and BBL lasers target the pigmented areas, leaving healthy skin cells intact and relatively untouched. This considerably reduces the recovery time and allows for little to no downtime to be necessary. The Broadband Light (BBL) system is a more advanced version of IPL laser technology, making it even safer and more comfortable to use on the skin.

The settings of the laser can be adjusted depending on a person’s skin type and the severity of the condition being treated. This treatment is great not only for skin irregularities on the face, it’s is also safe to use for the arms, back, chest, décolleté, hands, and legs.

What to Expect with Photofacial IPL and BBL Treatments

Our Photofacial IPL and BBL treatments begin with an application of a cooling gel on the treatment site to help soothe the burning sensation brought about by the laser beams. For more sensitive skin, a topical anesthetic can be used to reduce the discomfort. The sessions last for fifteen to thirty minutes depending on the size of the area that is being treated. Results are quite visible after one or two treatments, but we recommend an initial set of five treatments that are three to four weeks apart for optimal results. Additional treatment sessions can be performed if needed for more severe cases. Touch up treatments, six to eighteen months after the last, can be performed for maintenance.

After treatment, the skin may feel hot and tender, much like how a sunburn would feel. Pinkish patches may appear immediately after the Photofacial IPL or BBL treatment session, but this may last only for a few hours. Sunscreen is applied after the session which should be regularly reapplied every so often for at least 24 hours. It is possible for some mild swelling to occur and dark spots will appear darker for a while until they fade away or flake off completely. After all the peeling and flaking has subsided, healthier, more vibrant, and younger looking skin is revealed.

If you want to have softer, smoother, younger looking skin without the downtime caused by a long healing process, contact us to make an appointment for a consultation or to schedule a Photofacial IPL or BBL treatment today.
