Necklift

A necklift is a procedure done to enhance the appearance of the neck. A lot of people who undergo a facelift don’t really pay attention to how their necks look. They may end up looking 10, or even 20 years younger, but their necks will show you how old they really are. This is why a lot of plastic surgeons recommend this surgical neck enhancement procedure to complement a facelift procedure in order to get a better overall look. There are two procedures involved in neck enhancement. The first is called cervicoplasty, which is essentially the removal of excess skin in the neck. The second procedure is called platysmaplasty which is done to alter or remove neck muscles. Liposuction can also be performed in conjunction with these procedures in order to get rid of excess fat deposits in the neck area. The surgeon will determine which of these procedures is right for the patient based on the patient’s needs and the initial consultation with the patient.

About the Necklift Procedure

Cervicoplasty and platysmaplasty take roughly 2-3 hours to complete, but each procedure could take longer if done in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures such as liposuction or a facelift. The series of procedures begins with putting the patient under general anesthesia or local anesthesia combined with intravenous sedation. The type of anesthesia used will be discussed during the consultation session. After the anesthesia has taken effect, the surgeon then makes an incision under the chin, and depending on the case, behind the ears as well. The neck muscles will then be tightened and excess fat can cut out or be removed using liposuction. The extra skin is then trimmed and sutured back in place. A fluid drain will be placed and left under the skin for a couple of days to make sure all the blood and excess fluids are drained out to prevent fluid buildup along the incision line.

The downtime for this particular procedure is about 2 weeks, after which the patient can go back to performing normal everyday activities. Full recovery will take longer than that and strenuous activities should be avoided until then.

Cervicoplasty and plastymaplasty are a good way to achieve the youthful look you’ve been wishing for, whether or not the procedures are done in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures.
